To all Ballet with Miss Rachel students and families, here is your April News!
I know there is a lot of information. I appreciate you taking the time to read through all of our April info!
- If you would like your child to participate in Youth Company, today is the final day to sign up.
(Costume payment of $75 can be made at next week's class.)
-Rehearsals begin for dancers immediately.
- Check out our current Youth Company Members featured on the website!
- A performance schedule for Youth Co. Members will be finalized as soon as possible. I will be sure to communicate with parents to make sure dates of performances work for everyone. I am excited to begin sharing dance with our community!
A note to Beginning Ballet Parents- Some of you have previously said no to Youth Company for your child. However, the girls have been expressing interest in participating. If you would like to sign them up, today is the last day you can do so (just send me a text or an email) and if not, please be sure you speak with your child to be sure they understand your decision. I fully support parents decisions but also wanted you to be aware of what the girls have been saying to me in class. As a teacher I have told them they should talk to you and encouraged them that if anyone cannot participate now, there is always next year!
Tentative Recital Info
MAY 28 - RU Peters Hall
9:30am- 12:30pm* - Dress Rehearsal & Picture Taking (Mandatory)
5:00pm - Dancers arrive for Show
6:00pm - 7:00pm Spring Recital & Celebration Performance
*Parents should be ready to pick up students by 12:00pm in case we finish early.
Dress Rehearsal & Performance will be the same day in order to reduce costs of renting the RU Peters Hall Facility. If anyone has a conflict with the Dress Rehearsal time, please let me know as soon as possible. I highly recommend carpooling for anyone who has difficulty with other scheduling conflicts. Let me know if you need help arranging this.
For each enrolled child a family will receive 2 complimentary tickets.
Tickets for ages 13 & up will be $5
Tickets for 12 & under are FREE!
Tickets will be available May 1- 10 to Ballet with Miss Rachel families only before the general public to ensure enough seating for your family and friends since we are performing in a small venue (as far as audience size goes- the stage/dancing area is actually fairly large!) During this time, please purchase as many tickets as you need for your family and friends.
Tickets will be available to the general public beginning May 10 and will also be available at the door.
Four guest artists have been invited to participate in our performance. It is important for young aspiring dancers to see older dancers give quality performances. Seeing professional performances provides inspiration and motivation for students to continue working hard and encourages them to reach for their goals like other dancers have before them! I am still waiting on confirmation for some of these dancers, but I am excited to announce them soon!
Please be sure your dancer has everything they need for performance attire. While I will provide the costume, your child will need the following:
Pink Ballet Transition Tights- this includes pre- ballet students.
Pink Leather Ballet Shoes (Shoes should fit like snugly without being too tight but should not be baggy in the toes)
Pointe Shoes (High Int/Advanced Dancers only)
Half- Sole Shoes (High Int/Advanced Contemporary only)
If you need assistance finding any of these items, please let me know.
A full information packet with final details will be provided as soon as I have everything squared away.
I am so excited about the summer camps and workshops we will be offering. However, I am still waiting to hear back from a couple of venues to finalize details (dates & costs) for summer camps, so I will send a separate email to parents with more information when I receive it. Summer is a perfect time for dancers to develop and grow their technique (particularly beginning students and above). Summer study aids in retention of concepts learned and even helps dancers reach the next level in their technique. There is something for everyone this summer!
Congratulations! You made it through all of the information!! :)
As always- contact me with any questions or concerns and until I see you again- keep dancing!
This will be a short post with a few updates about things happening with "Ballet with Miss Rachel" classes, but first I want to let you all know about an exciting opportunity happening on April 2.
This Saturday at 7:30pm, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet will be coming to Virginia Tech. I already have my tickets to see them! Do you have yours? If you are unfamiliar with LINES Ballet, they are a company from San Fransisco directed by Alonzo King that is committed to performing contemporary works by classically trained ballet dancers. Sometimes dances are choreographed "en pointe", sometimes not, but no matter what, they are visually beautiful as well as thought provoking. Take a moment to watch the videos on this link to grasp a better understanding of what the LINES Ballet is all about. I hope I will see you there- and remember, children 12 & under are free!
- NO CLASSES will be held March 28 due to Easter/Spring Break. Classes will resume Tuesday, March 29th.
- If you or someone you know is interested in dancing, remember that enrollment for Spring Session 2016 ends April 5th. After that, interested families should check out summer classes!
- Look for summer information the first week of April on the website! I am looking forward to offering classes in June for students who are new to dance as well as camps in July for dancers with experience. You can check out more details here soon.
- Details about our Spring Performance & Celebration will be emailed as soon as they are finalized. In the meantime, if you have not already done so, please email me at email@example.com with any schedule conflicts around the week-ends of May 27-29 and June 3-5.
I hope you have all had a relaxing spring break & a Happy Easter with your families!
Until I see you again... Keep Dancing!
I am so excited to be getting back to teaching dance in the coming weeks and I am even more thrilled to have many new students (and some of my former students) joining me in the ballet studio!
For parents, I think you will love being able to see updates easily here (such as a closing for inclement weather or recital information updates) as well as the convenience of enrolling online. This will also be a great place to post pictures of the fun and learning we do in class! If you are new, you can start by reading about what you can expect from classes with me and my philosophy about teaching on the About page. Then check out the Classes, Schedule & Tuition rates. If you love lots of details, you can contact me to receive a full updated information packet.
Why start classes in March you might ask? This three month spring session is just long enough to get some good ballet training under our belts and put on a great Spring Performance & Celebration at the end of the semester. Just like in school, when we go too long without studying, both our bodies & minds begin to forget things. Each semester of study builds on the previous one to produce dancers who are both proficient and confident in their abilities!
Thank you so much for visiting the site! Take a moment to look around and feel free to contact me with any questions. I can't wait to get started!
Keep on dancing!
